That Empty Land Between Borgata and Harrah’s May Finally Have a Future

Atlantic City has always been a city that reinvents itself, and this latest announcement could be one of the biggest development stories we’ve seen in years.
MGM Resorts International has announced plans to build up to 1,000 housing units on the property connecting Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa and Harrah’s Resort Atlantic City. While there are still plenty of questions to answer, it’s an exciting conversation because it goes beyond casinos—it speaks to the future of the people who call Atlantic City home.
Mayor Marty Small Sr. shared the news this week, calling it another step forward for Atlantic City’s future. Whether you’ve lived here your whole life or you’re one of the many people who visit throughout the year, it’s encouraging to see conversations focused on building neighborhoods—not just casinos. Of course, there are still plenty of approvals and details ahead, but it’s a project that’s definitely worth watching.
More Than Just Another Development
I’ve always believed Atlantic City works best when it’s more than a destination to visit. It has to be a place where people can live, work, and build their future.
If this project moves through the approval process, it could become one of the largest residential developments near the Marina District in decades. MGM hasn’t released details yet on whether the homes will be apartments, condominiums, or a mix of both, and construction timelines have not been announced.
Those details will matter. Affordable housing, workforce housing, and market-rate homes all play different roles in helping a community grow. It’ll be interesting to watch how this project develops over the coming months.
Why It Matters
Anyone who’s spent time around the Marina District knows how much that area has evolved over the years. Borgata helped transform the neighborhood when it opened, and additional residential development could continue that momentum.
New housing also means the potential for more year-round residents supporting local restaurants, small businesses, entertainment venues, and community events throughout Atlantic City.
As always, local and state approvals will be required before construction begins, so there’s still a road ahead before any groundbreaking takes place.
This is one of those stories I’ll be keeping a close eye on because the future of Atlantic City isn’t just about new casinos or new attractions—it’s also about creating neighborhoods where people can build their lives. If this development is done right, it could be another positive step forward for our city.

I can’t believe a casino resort company would be involved in a residential project. That land along with the land near the golden nugget have faced rumors before . The recent potential sale of MGM rumors I believe would negate any possibility of this moving forward.
