AC Mike’s Weekend Update: August 21–23, 2026 — Big Names, Beach Nights & One Last Blast of August
Hey Folks,
Here we go, folks. We’re getting into that part of August when everybody starts saying, “Where did the summer go?” My advice? Don’t worry about where it went. We’ve still got plenty of summer left to enjoy.
And this weekend — Friday, August 21 through Sunday, August 23 — is a perfect example. Atlantic City has some serious star power coming to town, but I also want to make sure we don’t forget about the smaller, local places that give AC its personality. There’s plenty happening beyond the casino showrooms, too.
So whether you want Keith Urban and Diana Ross, local music at Anchor Rock Club, a ride on Steel Pier, an afternoon at the Atlantic City Aquarium, fireworks Downbeach or 3,000 rubber ducks racing in Wildwood, I found something for you.
Keith Urban Takes Over Hard Rock
Country fans have a pretty easy decision this weekend. Keith Urban is playing Hard Rock Live at Etess Arena on both Friday and Saturday night at 8 p.m.
Two nights in Atlantic City tells you something about the kind of crowd they’re expecting. Keith Urban is one of those performers who can bring in the country crowd, the rock crowd and plenty of people who simply appreciate a great live show.
While you’re at Hard Rock, Shore Local reports that the resort also has its Surfside Pop-Up Bar in the Atrium on Friday and Saturday, so there’s plenty happening before and after the concert.
Diana Ross Comes to Ocean
Talk about an icon.
Diana Ross brings her Diana in Motion Tour to Ovation Hall at Ocean Casino Resort on Friday at 9 p.m.
There aren’t many entertainers where you can simply say the name and everybody knows exactly who you’re talking about. From The Supremes through a remarkable solo career, Diana Ross is part of American music history. Seeing her right here on the Atlantic City Boardwalk is a pretty special way to spend a Friday night.
Ocean keeps the entertainment going Saturday with comedian Modi Rosenfeld at 8 p.m., followed Sunday afternoon at 4 p.m. by Boat House Row: A Yacht Rock Experience. You can see the full weekend lineup on the Ocean Casino Resort entertainment calendar.
Now Let’s Get Hyper-Local: Anchor Rock Club
One of the things I always want to remind people about Atlantic City is that there’s a lot more here than the big casino headliners. Sometimes the most interesting night is happening a few blocks away in one of our local venues.
Anchor Rock Club at 247 S. New York Avenue has two events this weekend, and they’re exactly the kind of homegrown AC happenings worth checking out.
Friday night is the Noetrope Night Market: Rhinestone Saloon, starting at 7 p.m. It’s part party, part craft fair and part live music event, with art, vendors, DJs and Americana music from Sean Daniels & The Law Abiding Citizens. They’re even encouraging people to break out the Western wear for the night.
Then Saturday brings the Second Annual Pine Barrens Folk Festival. Doors open at 3 p.m., with music beginning at 4. The lineup includes Age of Peace, Ornamental, Mandy Valentine and Dirthog Heaven, along with local artists, vendors and organizations connected to the Pine Barrens and South Jersey.
I like this one because it feels very Jersey. Local musicians, local artists, Pine Barrens culture and an independent Atlantic City music venue all under one roof. If you’ve never been inside Anchor Rock Club, this might be the weekend to change that.
Take a Ride on Steel Pier
Here’s another reminder that sometimes you don’t need a scheduled event to have a great night in Atlantic City.
Steel Pier is open all weekend, and there’s something about walking out over the Atlantic Ocean, seeing those rides lit up and looking back at the Atlantic City skyline that still feels like summer to me.
For this weekend, pier rides and The Wheel are scheduled from 2 p.m. to midnight Friday and noon to 1 a.m. Saturday and Sunday. The Tiki Bar and food venues are open as well. Hours can change because of weather, so check Steel Pier’s current operating hours before heading over.
Take the kids on the rides, get something to eat, ride The Wheel at sunset or just walk the pier. That’s classic Atlantic City, and sometimes we overlook the things sitting right in our own backyard.
Rediscover the Atlantic City Aquarium
Speaking of things in our backyard, when was the last time you went over to Historic Gardner’s Basin?
The Atlantic City Aquarium is open all weekend and operating on its extended summer schedule — 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily, with last admission at 6 p.m.
The Aquarium reopened in 2025 after a major renovation, and if you haven’t been back since then, it’s worth another look. There are more than 100 species, including Groman, the 225-pound loggerhead sea turtle, plus rays, seahorses, lionfish, diamondback turtles, moon jellies, horseshoe crabs and more. There’s also the Estuary Exhibit where visitors can get hands-on with some of our local marine life.
Admission is currently $15 for ages 13 and up, $10 for seniors, $8 for children ages 3–12 and free for kids 2 and under. There’s free parking on site, too.
And don’t just visit the Aquarium and immediately leave. Take some time to walk around Gardner’s Basin and enjoy the waterfront. It’s a completely different side of Atlantic City than the Boardwalk, and that’s exactly why I like it.
Longport Lights Up the Beach Saturday Night
Here’s one for everybody who wants to keep the weekend a little more local.
Longport’s End-of-Summer Fireworks Display is scheduled for Saturday, August 22, beginning around 9 p.m. at 33rd Avenue and the beach.
I know “end of summer” is in the name, but I’m not ready to concede that just yet.
Grab the family, find your spot and enjoy one of those classic South Jersey summer nights with fireworks over the ocean. The rain/wind date is Sunday, August 23. You can check for updates on the Borough of Longport website.
Beach Jam in Ventnor
Before those fireworks go off, you could make an entire Saturday evening out of the Downbeach area.
Ventnor’s Summer Beach Jam returns to Newport Avenue Beach on Saturday. Food and vendors get underway at 5:30 p.m., with live music beginning at 6:30 p.m.
This week it’s the Time Travelers Decades Show, celebrating the music and dance of the ’60s, ’70s and ’80s. Check out the details through the City of Ventnor.
Beach music in Ventnor followed by fireworks in Longport? That sounds like a pretty good South Jersey Saturday to me.
Ocean City POPS Bring the Rock
Ocean City gives us a nice Sunday night option when The Three Tenors of Rock Opera join the Ocean City POPS at the Music Pier from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m.
Angel Gomez, Chris Lysack and Robert Stahley join Maestro Vince Lee and the POPS for a night that combines powerhouse vocals with some very familiar music.
Tickets are listed at $20 to $25 through the official Ocean City box office.
And if you’re in Ocean City Friday morning, the Ocean City events calendar also has the Ocean City Green Fair at the Music Pier from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., along with the morning Walking Club and beach exercise.
3,000 Rubber Ducks Take Over Wildwood
Now this is exactly the kind of Shore event I love telling you about.
On Friday, 3,000 rubber ducks are going into the lazy river at Morey’s Piers for the Wildwoods PigDog Regatta & Beach Party.
Yes, you read that correctly.
The ducks race through Raging Waters, with prizes connected to the winning ducks. Afterward, the party moves to PigDog Beach Bar with live music, beach fire pits and Friday Night Fireworks.
Sometimes you don’t need to overthink summer. You need a beach, some music and 3,000 rubber ducks.

And Wildwood Isn’t Done Yet
On Saturday night, look up.
Wildwood is hosting a Drone Light Show over the beach beginning at 10 p.m., launching from Garfield Avenue Beach. The synchronized drones will create colorful patterns and animations over the Shore, accompanied by music.
It’s family-friendly, and this is one where bringing a beach chair or blanket is probably the right move. Find the details at the official Wildwoods tourism site.
Elton John Under the Stars in Sea Isle
No, I didn’t find Elton John wandering around Sea Isle.
But I did find the next best thing.
Yellow Brick Road — A Tribute to Elton John performs Saturday from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. at Excursion Park as part of Sea Isle City’s Concert Under the Stars series.
It’s another good outdoor summer option, especially if your idea of a great Saturday night includes hearing a few Elton classics near the beach. Visit the Sea Isle City Tourism calendar for details.
Rock the Boat in Cape May
If you want to do something a little different Saturday, head all the way down to Cape May.
The Cape May-Lewes Ferry has added a new Rock the Boat experience for 2026, and Saturday’s Cape May round-trip cruise departs at 4:30 p.m. and returns around 7:45 p.m.
This weekend’s band is Going Rogue, so you get live rock and roll, Delaware Bay views and a summer sunset from the deck of the ferry. That’s one of those experiences where the trip itself is the destination.

Blue Öyster Cult Closes Out the Weekend
And Cape May has one more good reason to make the trip south.
Blue Öyster Cult plays Cape May Convention Hall on Sunday, August 23 as part of Cape May’s 2026 Summer Concert Series.
That’s a pretty good way for classic-rock fans to put an exclamation point on the weekend. Ticket information is available through the City of Cape May Box Office.

Big Shows Are Great — But Don’t Forget Local AC
Folks, this is what I mean when I talk about everything we have right here in South Jersey. Within one weekend you can see Keith Urban or Diana Ross, discover a local band at Anchor Rock Club, take the kids to the Aquarium, ride The Wheel over the ocean, listen to music on a Ventnor beach, watch fireworks in Longport, race rubber ducks in Wildwood, hear Elton John songs under the stars in Sea Isle and cruise the Delaware Bay with a rock band.
And that local part matters to me. Atlantic City isn’t just the casino floor or the big arena show. It’s New York Avenue. It’s Gardner’s Basin. It’s Steel Pier. It’s the Boardwalk. It’s the musicians, artists, restaurants, bartenders, servers and small-business owners who are here week after week.
So you don’t have to do all of it. Pick one or two things, call somebody you haven’t seen in a while and get out there. August isn’t over yet.
