HAPPENING TODAY 8/26: Pro Skateboarding Takes Over Atlantic City
Hey Folks,
I want to tell you about something happening TODAY in Atlantic City — and after a conversation I had yesterday, this one has a lot more meaning for me personally. The Kingdom Takeover Tour rolls into Uptown Skatepark today, Wednesday, August 26, from 1:00 to 4:00 PM, bringing skateboarding, faith, community and some serious talent together for an afternoon in Atlantic City. If you’re around town today, bring the kids, bring your board, or just come by and check it out.
Yesterday’s Conversation With Jay Klotz Really Hit Home
Yesterday, I had Skate AC founder Jason “Jay” Klotz on The AC Mike Podcast, and I have to tell you, this conversation touched me deeply. We started out talking about Skate AC, what the organization is doing for Atlantic City, and some of the exciting things Jay and his team are working on, but before long we got into Jay’s personal story. He opened up about the life-changing events he’s experienced, the road that ultimately led him to God, and how those experiences changed the way he looks at his health, his purpose and what he wants to do with the time he’s been given. As I sat there listening, I couldn’t help but think about my own journey and some of the events in my life that forced me to look at things differently. There were parallels between Jay’s story and mine that I honestly wasn’t expecting when we sat down, and they stayed with me long after we finished recording. We talked about faith, health, wellness, purpose, second chances and what you choose to do with those second chances, and I walked away from that conversation genuinely inspired — inspired by Jay’s story, inspired by what he’s trying to build, and inspired to think even bigger about some of the positive things we can do together right here in our community.
There’s a Lot More to Skate AC Than Skateboarding
That’s one of the things I hope you’ll take away when the full podcast episode drops this Friday. Yes, we talked about skateboarding, but this conversation was really about people, purpose and community. Skate AC is working to create places where young people can get outside, stay active, build confidence, connect with other people and have somewhere positive to belong. When you hear Jay tell his story, you begin to understand where that passion comes from. We also spent time talking about health and wellness and some exciting ideas that Jay and I hope to work on together over the coming months. I’m not going to give everything away yet, but I left that studio feeling energized about what’s possible. Sometimes you sit down for an interview expecting one conversation and walk away with something completely different. This was one of those conversations for me, and I think when you hear it Friday, you’ll understand exactly what I mean.
But Today Is About Kingdom Takeover
Before Friday’s podcast drops, you have an opportunity today to see some of that Skate AC spirit firsthand. The Kingdom Takeover Tour is making its Atlantic City stop at Uptown Skatepark from 1:00 to 4:00 PM, bringing together skateboarding, faith, positivity and community. The advertised lineup includes some serious skateboarding talent, including Antwuan Dixon, Nick Merlino, Jud Heald, Tyler Lackman, Kenny Hampton, Dave Jonsson, Eric Dean, the 456 Unlimited team and more, along with professional demos, contests, giveaways, prayer and community activities. You don’t have to be a skateboarder to come out and enjoy it, either. In fact, if you know me, you know I’m probably much safer watching these guys from the sidelines than trying to show anybody what I can do on four wheels. What matters is getting people together, giving young people something positive to be part of and supporting people who are putting their time and energy into making a difference in Atlantic City. After spending time with Jay yesterday and hearing the story behind his mission firsthand, that’s something I’m even more excited to support.
