Megan Knight Wins September 9 Hard Rock Rising — And She’s Moving On

I’m hosting all four Wednesday nights of Hard Rock Rising at Hard Rock Cafe Atlantic City, and after two weeks, I can tell you this has been a lot of fun. What I’ve really enjoyed is meeting the artists, hearing their stories and getting to watch them perform in front of an Atlantic City crowd. On Wednesday, September 9, the night belonged to Megan Knight, who won Night Two and earned her spot in the Hard Rock Rising Final Showdown on September 23.

There’s something different about hearing an artist live. You can listen to recordings and read a bio, but when somebody gets onstage, you find out pretty quickly whether they can connect with a room. Megan did that Wednesday night. She brought a strong voice, confidence and plenty of personality to her performance, and she had a great crowd there supporting her. When the competition was over, Megan was the September 9 winner.

A Winning Night That Almost Had the Whole Family on Stage

There was also a good story behind the band Megan brought to Hard Rock. Her regular drummer, Junior, got sick and couldn’t make the show, so her Uncle Keith stepped in on drums at the last minute. She had another uncle playing bass and her friend John on guitar. As Megan joked when we talked afterward, they almost had the whole family onstage. It was a lineup they had to pull together quickly, but you wouldn’t have known it watching them perform. They got onstage, got it done and walked away with the win.

I also liked what Megan said about the people who came out to support her. She knows everybody has busy lives, and having people take the time to come to Hard Rock on a Wednesday night — with work and school and everything else going on — meant a lot to her. You could tell that support wasn’t something she took for granted.

She Started at 13 — and Was Playing Around 200 Dates a Year

Talking with Megan after the show also gave me a little more appreciation for how long she’s been working at this. She told me she started performing at 13 years old and was playing around 200 dates a year. One gig started leading to another, and somewhere along the way she realized music was what she was meant to do.

That makes Wednesday’s win even more interesting. We sometimes discover an artist in one night, but that doesn’t mean the artist got there overnight. Megan has spent years performing, writing and building a career. Her sound is rooted in country, with some rock-and-roll swagger and a pop edge mixed in, and that work has already taken her well beyond South Jersey.

According to Megan Knight’s official website, she has opened for national touring artists including Zach Top, Alexandra Kay, Tigirlily Gold, Trey Lewis, Gary Nichols, Love & Theft, Anthony Smith and Michael Franti & Spearhead. She’s also performed official pre-party appearances for Brad Paisley and Sam Hunt and has spent time working in the legendary music community of Muscle Shoals, Alabama.

South Jersey country fans may already know Megan from Barefoot Country Music Fest in Wildwood. She was part of the 2026 lineup there, and earlier this year she released her latest album, Slow Your Horses. The 13-song album came out in May and is another good place to start if Wednesday night was your introduction to Megan.

My Conversation With Megan After the Win

After everything wrapped up Wednesday night, I grabbed Megan for a quick conversation. We talked about the win, the crowd that came out to support her, starting her career at 13 and that last-minute family lineup that helped get her through the night.

I like seeing so many Shore towns on that schedule — Cape May, Stone Harbor, Wildwood and Atlantic City. Supporting live music around here also means supporting the restaurants, bars, hotels and venues that continue to give musicians a place to play.

Next Stop: The September 23 Final Showdown

Here’s the important part of Wednesday night’s win: Megan now advances to the Hard Rock Rising Final Showdown on September 23. She’ll be joining the other qualifying winners, including the Andrew Moore Band, as the competition comes down to its final night.

Before we get there, though, we still have Night Three on Wednesday, September 16. I’ll be back hosting as another group of performers takes its shot at earning that final spot. Hard Rock lists Night Three from 7–10 p.m., and then the September 23 Final Showdown runs from 6–10 p.m..

The whole point of a competition like this is discovering artists and giving them an audience, and after the first two weeks, I’m looking forward to seeing what happens next.

Congratulations again to Megan Knight on winning Night Two of Hard Rock Rising on September 9. It was fun watching her and the band pull it together, and I enjoyed getting a couple of minutes with her afterward. Now she gets to come back on September 23 and do it all over again with a little more on the line.
