Bill’s Gyro & Souvlaki: A Boardwalk Tradition Worth Discovering
Hey Folks,
A few days ago, I stopped into one of those places that reminds you why I love Atlantic City so much.
It’s called Bill’s Gyro & Souvlaki, located right on the Boardwalk at 1607 Boardwalk in Atlantic City, and if you’ve ever walked past it and kept going, you’re missing out.
The truth is, I’ve been stopping at Bill’s for more than 30 years. Long before the tram tours, the website, the radio shows, and the newsletters, Bill’s was one of those Boardwalk spots I always found myself coming back to.
I’m also proud to have known Bill Kakoulides, the original owner of Bill’s, who built the place into a favorite for locals and visitors alike. Today, owner Sargis Ghalechyan continues that tradition, serving great food and keeping the same welcoming atmosphere that has made Bill’s a Boardwalk staple for decades.

That’s one reason this visit meant a little more to me. It wasn’t about trying a new restaurant—it was about catching up with an old Atlantic City tradition that I’ve enjoyed for years.
Most people know Bill’s for the gyros and souvlaki, and for good reason. They’re loaded, fresh, and exactly what you want after a day on the beach, a walk on the Boardwalk, or a long weekend in town.
But here’s something a lot of visitors don’t realize: Bill’s is more than just a gyro spot. Whether you’re looking for a hearty breakfast, lunch, dinner, a sandwich, a cold soda, or an ice-cold beer while taking in the Boardwalk atmosphere, you’ll find it here. It’s one of those places that seems to have a little something for everyone.

If you know me or if you’ve been following me, you know I don’t recommend places unless I’ve actually been there. Atlantic City has plenty of big-name restaurants, but sometimes the best meals come from the local spots that have been serving visitors and locals for years.
What I’ve always enjoyed about Bill’s is the atmosphere. It’s one of those authentic Boardwalk places that keeps people coming back year after year. Locals know it, visitors discover it, and once you’ve been there, you usually find yourself stopping back again.
Another cool thing about Bill’s is its connection to Atlantic City history. Inside you’ll find a brochure that shares the story of Atlantic City’s beginnings—from the Lenni Lenape and Absegami days all the way through the city’s growth into America’s Playground. It’s a reminder that every Boardwalk business has a story to tell.
If you’re looking for things to do in Atlantic City, make sure Bill’s is on your list. Whether it’s breakfast before hitting the beach, lunch on the Boardwalk, dinner after a day in town, or a cold drink while you watch the world go by, Bill’s remains one of Atlantic City’s longtime favorites.
